Race 6, Weekend Detention

Weekend Detention was a fun, 1.2km suburban run. Not super-fast or steep, it provided three incident free heats. Even with two of our regulars racing away in a legitimate race, we still posted our biggest field ever, eleven carts, with three new racers.
Two of them have some room for development, but Kymbo is a fully-fledged road rocket!
Even after 50m it was already leaving the rest of the field for dead. After the first corner the rest of the field thought he'd taken a wrong turn, because we couldn't see him anymore!
You'll be pleased to know Double Trouble has been rebuilt, but is now a single-seater – Trouble Maker. Finding a willing passenger was proving too difficult...
Ton O' Fun debuted and traveled a great distance to be there. It's not a cart you want to get in the way of.

There were also the traditional mid-field rivalries, with the newly painted Fruit Loop coming up trumps, even with the extra weight of the stereo. Blue Bandit's new speedo showed it got to a top speed of 54.8km/h.

Tiny Tim did well to finish, after getting out and pushing a couple of times. Never say die! Once again our support crew did an awesome job driving, filming and traffic controlling. Thanks!

Race Six

AIGRF Race Six will be Sunday 17th February – "Weekend Detention". Interested racers, camera crew and spectators please assemble at 5.45am SHARP at McDonald's Warners Bay for race briefing and track details. We will assign grid positions, advise spectators where to go and travel to the track at 6.00am. After the race, there will be the usual BBQ breakfast and trophy presentation – BYO bacon and eggs.

Race 5, Who's Your Daddy?

You'll really want to see the movie for this. I turn my back for 5 minutes to bring another human life into the world (going great by the way), and look what happens.




Obviously intimidated by the sheer number of new carts, hungry for screen time in the movie, and without the watchful eye of their big brother, Hitman and Nob go crazy.
In the first Heat, Hitman tumbles Quicksilver in the AIGRF's first major incident. He is unscathed, and jumps back in to take 9th.
Not to be outdone, Double Trouble does a 180 half way down the track in Heat 2 and completes the course backwards, ending in a spectacular wheelie.
The two teamed up in Heat 3, and this is the result. Double Trouble will never be the same again...

So, how did everyone else do?
Well, we've doubled the size of the field to 10 carts!
Welcome Bootylicious! An impressive start, taking second place in the trophy race.
Welcome Paddles! An even more impressive start, winning the trophy race. This thing is a bullet!
Welcome (finally) to Fruit Loop, which finished mid-pack, with the promise of greater things to come. Superkart 3000 also debuted all-new, wind-tunnel-tested, super-light body work.
Alas, a blown front tyre prevented us from seeing if this will cataput SK3K to that elusive win...
Agent Orange also sported some new hi-vis front body work. Worked like a charm. Better brakes didn't hurt, either.
The pilot of the Blue Bandit will be reconsidering shorts as safety equipment in light of this month's shenanigans. But it stayed out of trouble and climbed the rankings to finish 5th.
The Death Machine lived up to it's name, killing Double Trouble. Repairs are required, and it only just had new vents put in.

Paddles

There seems to have been a flurry of cart building activity over the Christmas break – here's another one!
This one's called Paddles – the inverted canoe. From the looks of the pics it has been built in an Aladin's cave of billy cart goodies.
It turns the 'two trolley' method of cart building on it's side – literally. Also contributing to the process were 2 pushies, a wheelchair, a mobility scooter,an electric scooter, a snowmobile, a bedframe, a pram, and a pocket bike.
It looks awesome and could mean 10 carts next race! Ten! More pics here.

A new lady-racer is set to join the AIGRF, in this glorious, as yet unnamed cart.
EDIT: It now has a name – Bootylicious!

Sweet fancy Moses! Check out that complicated and elaborate looking rear axle set-up with fancy-pants disc brakes. Note to my mechanic: I want this. More pics here.

Fruit Loop

So, what happened to 'Fruit Loop', the much anticipated new cart profiled here that was supposed to be ready for Race 2? Well, this happened...
See, this is why we say you need brakes. You're not Fred Flintstone.
An ill-advised test run ended in disaster after catastrophic brake failure and all thoughts of completing the vehicle were abandoned. Until now.
After some quality shed time with people who know what they're doing, Fruit Loop is finally ready for action!

Race Five

Happy New Year! AIGRF Race Five will be Sunday 20th January – "Who's Your Daddy?". We will assign grid positions, advise spectators where to go and travel to the track at 6.15am. After the race, there will be the usual BBQ breakfast and trophy presentation – BYO bacon and eggs.

Race 4, Skippy's Revenge

Our longest and closest race yet!
This was a nice gradual hill in an industrial area with a lot of bush around, 1.2km long, ending with a sharp left into a short dead-end.
A few deadly potholes, but very light traffic, no houses and one very stoked early morning walker.
For the first time we welcomed a lady racer to the trophy race, driving the Death Machine. This may not happen again, because she won...
This race also saw the debut of a new cart, Agent Orange, bringing our regular tally to seven. It came last this time, but shouldn't take long to dial in.
The official results don't do justice to the Blue Bandit or SK3K. You could have thrown a blanket over the whole pack, with positions changing many times.
Perhaps it was the tinsel slowing Superkart 3000 down? Great Christmas spirit though...
Double Trouble has had a lot of modifications since the last race, including go-faster red scallops, wheel strengthening and being completely lowered. A new co-driver may have also made a difference to its highest ever placing.
Quicksilver finished in the middle, like it always does.
